Born 1907: Robert Young, actor, star of radio and TV's popular "Father Knows Best" sitcom (1949-60). Died 1998.

Born 1907: Sheldon Leonard, character actor, who segued behind the camera to become one of television's most successful producers and directors ("Make Room for Daddy," "The Dick Van Dyke Show," "My Favorite Martian," "Gomer Pyle, U.S.M.C."). He was the executive producer (with Danny Thomas) and creator of "The Andy Griffith Show." Died 1997.

Born 1918: Don Pardo, announcer, "Saturday Night Live" (1975-).

Born 1926: Bud Yorkin, TV-film director and producer. His directing credits include "The Colgate Comedy Hour" (1950-55), "The George Gobel Show" (1954-60), "The Spike Jones Show" (1954), "Come Blow Your Horn" (1963), "Start the Revolution Without Me" (1970), "All in the Family" (1971-79), "Sanford and Son" (1972-77), "What's Happening!!" (1976-79).

Born 1928: Paul Dooley, stand-up comedian and actor, "Breaking Away" (1979), "Popeye" (1980), "Sixteen Candles" (1984), "Dream On" (1992-94), "Grace Under Fire" (1994-95).

1934: Clark Gable and Claudette Colbert opened in Frank Capra's comedy, "It Happened One Night," destined to win the Oscar for Best Picture of the Year.

1949: The popular radio sitcom "My Friend Irma" went before the Paramount cameras for a big screen version which would be overshadowed by two newcomers in their motion picture debuts, Dean Martin and Jerry Lewis.

Born 1959: Kyle MacLachlan, actor, "Blue Velvet" (1986), "Twin Peaks" (1990-91), "The Flintstones" (1994), "Sex and the City" (2000-).

Born 1975: Drew Barrymore, actress, "E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial" (1982), "Wayne's World 2" (1993), "The Wedding Singer" (1998), "Never Been Kissed" (1999), "Confessions of a Dangerous Mind" (2002).
